What We Do
As one of the largest private global investors, Merchant Banking invests in corporate, real estate and infrastructure investments worldwide.
Merchant Banking investments are made through the following groups: Principal Investment Area, Real Estate Principal Investment Area, Urban Investment Group, Infrastructure Investment Group and Real Estate Alternatives. Investments are made directly on behalf of Goldman Sachs and through a series of investment funds currently managed by these groups. The scope of Merchant Banking’s activities includes:
- Targeting and sourcing a variety of investment opportunities throughout the world
- Analyzing macro and microeconomic risks inherent in specific countries, industries, companies and real estate assets through extensive due diligence
- Structuring and executing complex investments, including detailed financial analysis, deal negotiation and transaction execution
- Assisting portfolio company management and operating partners to create value and grow their businesses or portfolios, including through representation on the Board of Directors and management oversight
- Assessing the appropriate time and manner in which to harvest an investment
