Goldman Sachs has had offices in Switzerland since 1974. The firm had provided investment services to wealthy individuals and families for over 45 years, so the idea of founding a Swiss private bank was a natural evolution for the firm. In 1992, the firm was granted a prestigious Swiss private banking licence.

Goldman Sachs Bank opened the Geneva branch in spring 2001. Chief among the reasons is the city’s importance to foreign investors, especially those from Latin America, the Middle East and Southern Europe. Located at 1 Rue des Moulins, the office lies at a prime site next to the river Rhône. The office compliments the Zurich office, combining the Goldman Sachs global network and the long tradition of Swiss private banking, which dates back to the 18th century, offering discretion as well as political and economic stability.
