As a limited partner, we have worked with hundreds of private equity general partners, providing primary capital commitments, liquidity solutions and co-investment capital. We provide due diligence resources, structuring expertise and a network of global relationships to help our GPs enhance their portfolio companies and their businesses.

Primary Capital Commitments
As part of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Private Equity Group (PEG) is the group within Goldman Sachs that commits capital to private equity firms on behalf of Goldman Sachs’ investors. Our objective is to provide our investors with access to a diversified pool of the world’s best private equity managers. We commit capital to GPs investing across leveraged buyouts, growth capital, venture capital, distressed and other private equity strategies. We have a global open-door policy and consider all varieties of funds, ranging from the first-time fund manager in a niche strategy to the global multi-fund organization with assets in the billions.

Co-Investment Partner
We are an active co-investor alongside GPs in new portfolio company investments. Our aim is to serve as a supportive partner, working within the GP’s timetable and complementing the GP’s capabilities. Our team is able to move quickly to evaluate opportunities globally and provide capital. We often contribute substantial due diligence resources to the transaction, involving the insights of our team, industry research analysts, global economists, senior country advisors and capital market desks.

Liquidity and Capital Solutions
We help GPs to actively manage their LP investor base and provide solutions for LPs wishing to explore liquidity and restructuring alternatives for their private equity portfolios. We are one of the largest investors in the secondary market and are regarded as a leader and innovator. We acquire LP interests from investors who are actively managing their exposures, focusing on delivering fair value to the existing LP and becoming a supportive partner of the GP going forward.

For those GPs to whom we are already committed, these co-investment and liquidity opportunities can deepen our exposure to a familiar GP family. For those GPs where we have not yet committed capital, these alternatives create new opportunities to build new relationships and gain a deeper understanding of the GP’s existing portfolio companies, team and unique investment strategies.
